Join us for a discussion of "The House of Mondavi: The Rise and Fall of an American Wine Dynasty" by Julia Flynn Siler.
The new Chicago Stanford Book Group is now up and running having launched their first meeting earlier in June. If you would like to be added to the new distribution list for the group, please email Cathy Hartmann, MA '78 at PineappleCathy@msn.com.
"The New York Times bestseller, now in paperback: a scandal-plagued story of the immigrant family that built—and then lost—a global wine empire Set in California's lush Napa Valley and spanning four generations of a talented and visionary family, The House of Mondavi is a tale of genius, sibling rivalry, and betrayal. From 1906, when Italian immigrant Cesare Mondavi passed through Ellis Island, to the Robert Mondavi Corp.'s twenty-first-century battle over a billion-dollar fortune, award-winning journalist Julia Flynn Siler brings to life both the place and the people in this riveting family drama. A meticulously reported narrative based on more than five hundred hours of interviews, The House of Mondavi is a modern classic."
As an exciting part of our evening, author Julia Flynn Siler will join our discussion via conference call. It should make for a very special evening!
Note: If you plan to join our discussion, please RSVP to Cathy Hartmann at PineappleCathy@msn.com.

Join us to watch the film "Australia" starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman. We will then discuss it over dinner immediately after the film at a nearby restaurant. Newcomers are welcome!
"In northern Australia prior to World War II, an English aristocrat inherits a cattle station the size of Maryland. When English cattle barons plot to take her land, she reluctantly joins forces with a rough-hewn stock-man to drive 2,000 head of cattle across hundreds of miles of the country's most unforgiving land, only to still face the bombing of Darwin, Australia, by the Japanese forces that had attacked Pearl Harbor only months earlier. This epic film is filled with drama, adventure, and romance."
