MISSION STATEMENT The Stanford Black Alumni Association of Washington, D.C. ("SBAA-DC") serves as a resource for the entire African-American Stanford University community of the Washington metropolitan area. The SBAA-DC works to strengthen ties between Stanford Black alumni and the Washington, D.C. community through cultural events, community service, and outreach programs. The SBAA-DC strives to increase the number of African-American students and faculty at Stanford University. Finally, the SBAA-DC fosters networking among members, promotes cultural growth, and addresses issues important to the African-American community. WHO WE AREThe SBAA-DC is comprised of nearly 200 alums in the greater Washington, DC area. Our diverse membership spans several decades of Stanford, from the class of 1959 to the class of 2003. WHAT WE DO The SBAA-DC puts on several events throughout the year. Below is a sampling of some of the events we hosted in the past year: Career/Networking: quarterly happy hours co-hosted with other universities' alumni of color associations. Cultural: tickets to the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre and Carmen at the Kennedy Center, Topdog/Underdog at the Studio Theatre and a showcase featuring local artists of color and their work. Outreach: reception for African-American admitted students and new graduates/frosh send-off barbecue. Social: Big Game tailgate party, Salsa Saturday at Club VIP and our annual Holiday Party. |
